The simplest way to eat tomatoes is fresh and freshly picked.
If you grow your own tomatoes, as well as cook them, you will know that there is nothing quite like the taste of a juicy fresh tomato. So how do you improve on perfection?
Well, adding a little olive oil and a touch of freshly ground salt and pepper is one idea. Of course freshly chopped basil is the most complimentary herb for adding to tomatoes but almost any herb used accordingly will go well.
When I was young one of my favourite combinations was tomato and salad cream sandwiches - a dream team if ever there was one but not everyone taste!
Cherry tomatoes are best added to pastas and curries at the end of cooking and taste fantastic just warmed.
Like red wine, if you chill tomatoes by keeping them in the fridge they'll lose their flavour so keep them and eat them at room temperature or just slightly warmer for best results.
